Now, in the South I might get away with wearing long gloves without a coat. But for you northern readers, they're still totally awesome! Remember how that cold wind blows right up the sleeves of your warm, wool coat? You might as well have just spilled a bowl full of icicles down your shirt! Tug these babies on and your hands and arms will stay warm!

Plus-Size Look of the Week #2

You all know I love sweater dresses (click here). I'm currently wearing the dress pictured below with a black/gray snakeskin belt tightened under my bust. It's so comfortable! Lately Lane Bryant has sold a lot of belts that have leather buckles in the front, but elastic-y material around the waist—much easier and more comfortable to sit in! If you see one, snatch it up quick. The salesgirl in my local store says they go fast.

I wore my dress with black striped leggings (Spanx brand, so they're helping to hold in my tummy!) and black flats, but boots with a heel really do look awesome. Once my foot heels (I've been having some issues!), I plan to wear this with my short black booties. But, seriously girls, check out a sweater dress soon!!

Plus-Size Look of the Week #1

You all know by now that I'm a plus-size girl. I love fashion, but sometimes dressing a full-figured body isn't easy. To rock the styles you like, sometimes you have to be brave and do things like baring your arms, chicken wings or no chicken wings. Case in point, my pic below...lol

You also have to learn to take chances. That's what I like about my first Plus-Size Look of the Week. This outfit from Lane Bryant combines a lot of funky details—the cardigan paired with the satin, printed dress, then belted and worn with a soft scarf. And I love the little booties. I even like the hat, though I'm not sure I'd wear it myself.

Now, I have a hard time wearing satiny materials. They tend to show a lot of lumps and bumps. I'd recommend wearing a slip or a scary-stomach-sucking-in apparatus to smooth you out (I heart Spanx!). Also, try mixing your prints. Try wearing a scarf that has a lot of the same colors as your dress, but a very subtle print so it's not too crazy of a mix. And, listen up you larger ladies. The trick with boots is, you need a heel. If you're going to wear boots with dresses or skirts, you gotta go with some height. A flat boot, while I love them with pants, just looks too stumpy with dresses. I've tried to rock this look, but I failed miserably.

Personally, I'll try this layered look with dresses I already own, particularly summery dresses that will need a cardigan in the next few months.

For all you skinny ladies out there, take advice from my Plus-Size Look of the Week too. We all need help to look slimmer and more fashionable at times!

My Style Icon: Leighton Meester, aka Blair Waldorf

I know she's supposed to be in high school, but the way she puts together outfits is so amazingly cool. And by "she" I mean Leighton herself, or the stylist for Blair. LOL They're kind of one and the same because the both have a sophisticated style that pushes boundaries...exactly the kind of style I'd like to have myself.

I don't know what I like more here, the satin slim pants, the voluminous sleeves on her sweater, or that amazing chair she's sitting on!

Ruffles. I love ruffles. And that coat? I just love how her outerwear and accessories (Hello? The gloves? The headband?) aren't forgotten items. They aren't just convenient pieces she throws on. She puts thought into them.

Blair mixes prints a lot. I love it. A lot.

Plaid is so hot this fall. I love the pops of color in this outfit—the purple turtleneck, the green headband. To make this a little more sophisticated, I'd wear heels and a button down top under this jumper. Ready for work.

Repeat after me: This fall I will wear cardigans and something navy blue. Cardigans and something navy blue.

Cute little dresses, simple little shorts, and comfy flat sandals. The summertime uniform of any Manhattan girl...or Birmingham girl, for that matter.

Ah, the cape. Keep an eye out for a soon-to-come posting on outerwear. For now, simply covet this little brown cape as I do. Loving it!

How sexy is this dress? The bustier effect of the neckline, the gathered belt across her waist. Tres chic. And the color combo is unexpected too.

This little black-and-white number is so sophisticated, I can't even stand it! The sweetheart neckline is so perfect for her. The print is graphic and the white is so flattering. Can you say green with envy?

Fashion Flubs

I get that the 80s are back. Leggings, bangles, vests. I can get behind those trends.

But the three trends below are just...heinous.

So, yeah. I just don't get cropped tops. They cut you off in a weird place and just look, well, sloppy.

Boots with sundresses? Too Alicia Silverstone in Aerosmith videos for me. I don't know if this is 80s or 90s, I just know I don't like it. Tall boots or sleek booties with regular dresses (with tights, preferrably)? That's fine. But these dresses should be worn with sandals, wedges, or heels.

There are a lot of new things going on with denim this year. I love the idea of black jeans. I might (MIGHT) even be able to get behind a tear or two if balanced well with the rest of the outfit so it's not too grungy. But tie-dye? No. Thank you.

Clothes DO Make the Man

When I set out to write a post about men's fashion, I thought, "This will be easy. I know exactly what I like guys to wear."

Wrong! It's so hard to define what looks good on a man because, for me, it all comes down to his attitude. I finally get what guys are always saying about a woman's confidence and the way she carries herself...that's what's sexy. Same goes for the guys.

One thing I do know—there's one go-to outfit that most men pull on day after day, week after week, that just irritates the crap out of me.

Take one pair of pleat-front khaki shorts:

And add one polo shirt:

Now you have the most cliché, boring look worn by guys the world over. Well, not really. This is a quintessentially American look. And it needs some spice. At the very least, get rid of your pleat-front ANYTHING!! The look is dated. Please, please try flat-front shorts and pants. And if you go for the polo, choose a solid color..stripes or other patterns make you look too...golfy.

Now, for shoes. I'm very picky about guys' shoes. I'm not going to even address dress shoes (though I will say, try square-toe slip-ons rather than ones that tie). But here's some picks for sneakers...the key? Stay away from the average Nikes, New Balance sneakers and try some "fashion" sneakers.

And for summer? Flip-flops. Simple, pure, surfer's flip-flops, like these Reefs. Birkenstocks are OK too.Finally, here's some inspiration for you...these looks aren't necessarily for summer, but just look at the way these guys layer clothes, how they use accessories...and my No. 1 rule for guys—wear dark jeans!!!!!!! No more stonewash or light-wash. Dark, dark denim on a man is HOT!

Love J.T.'s casual style—a simple soccer jacket and nice jeans.

This is great! A leather jacket instead of a blazer. And ya gotta love a man who can rock a hat like him.

My friends don't get it, but there's just something about Jay-Z's swagger that gets me! I love the layers here—a button-up shirt, sweater, jacket and scarf. Do you see how the plaids are different but they work together?

Oh, those Gossip guys. Their style on the show may be a little out there, but Chase Crawford looks tres hot in this sweater-jacket thing. And the scarf? It's the little things that count. Who wouldn't want to snuggle up to him?

OK, Dane Cook needs darker jeans. But no one rocks a T-shirt like him! And what makes it look this good? The belt. He just knows how to wear a belt. Want the girls to pay extra special attention to your...um...below the belt area? Pick out a cool buckle. Trust me.

I've always thought Ne-Yo was one of the hottest dressed men out there...and I still do. Not to mention I'm a sucker for a man in a newsboy cap. Is it the hip-hop style? Or the "Cheerio, I'm from London" style? Either way, I love it. And I love the casual way he wears this sweater vest over a button-up shirt that's untucked. Stellar.

And, finally, try brown, fellas. I think guys often go with what they know—blue, black, plain ol' T-shirts. Try a brown color palette, and please, for next fall try this button-up shirt + cardigan/sweater vest look. It's a simple way to look a tad more dressed up without going to the blazer. And the hat? If you dare, I promise the ladies will love it!

The 3 Things I'd Buy This Summer

Ladies, I don't know about you, but the money's running a little low these days. But, still, my desire to indulge in fashion can never be stamped down! So I've decided to seek out three things this summer to update my wardrobe with little jazzy touches.

First, florals. They're just so sweet and light and airy. Down here in 'Bama, Lord knows I need light-weight fabrics to keep me cool. Check out Kate Moss below...she's wearing a dainty dress, but she looks hot!! I'd pair this dress (or any of the tops from Forever 21 below) with leather sandals that have metal details to add a little edge.

Second, let's talk about sandals. See how great Blake Lively looks in these? I'm still a fan of the strappy sandals out now...call them gladiators, call them sandals, as long as they don't strap all the way up your legs, I'm in. The trick this summer, I think, is to look for funky textures or added metal touches. I love these pictured here.

And, finally, don't you just love these headbands??!! I'll admit it, I'm having a bit of a love affair with Leighton Meester's headware on Gossip Girl. Her pink adornment here is a bit risky (do you dare?). But check out the jeweled or feather examples below...so fun!!

Take 21: Crimes Against Fashion

These are my picks for the current Top 5 Worst Fashion Sins.

You've probably seen some of these before in various fashion magazines. The sad thing is, they're still happening. Every day. All around you. Now, I'm all for individual expression in fashion...no doubt about it. Some things I wear, like my new turquoise bejeweled flats (on sale for $7.50 at Target), other girls wouldn't be caught dead in. But the problem with these 5 is they just. don't. make. sense!!!

1. Uggs worn during the summer with skirts. Most of my friends know that I'm not a huge fan of Uggs in the first place. I think they kinda make women clomp around like Abominable Snowmen, and they're not feminine in any way, shape, or form. But, in Chicago, or Wisconsin, or Canada, I get it. I get that it's freaking ridiculously cold and sheep's wool or whatever they're made of would feel fantastic snuggled around your little tootsies. Check out the photo to the right, though. Seriously? Seriously??? Is it at all practical or necessary or even flattering to wear these clod-hopper boots with skirts? Skirts??? If it's warm enough to wear a skirt without tights, please, please find a cute pair of sandals or some funky low-top Converse sneakers to wear with your jean skirt. Please!!!

2. Coordinating sweatsuits. Listen up Tri-State area women! Yes, I'm mainly talking to you. Thankfully this trend has passed in the South. Or it never came here. But regardless of where you live, this look is over. O-V-E-R. I firmly support fashion gurus Tim Gunn, Clinton Kelly, and Stacy London who plead with women everywhere to have a sweatsuit alternative. That's right. No more velour. No more pastels. No more "Juicy" written across your ass. Pull on a pair of jeans, cute tee, and fashion sneakers. Slip on a cozy sweater. Sweats are worn to...um...what's that again? Oh, yeah. SWEAT!!!

3. Crocs. Look, I've gotten a lot of flack in the past for saying how much I detest these shoes. Or rubber gloves for your feet, as I think they look and feel. It's just...come on! They're clunky. And rubber. Rubber!!!! And they have holes all over them and come in neon colors and they must smell soooooo bad when your feet sweat. Which they will. Because your shoes are made of rubber. Unless you're actually working in a garden, or professional kitchen, or I guess, maybe even a hospital, just don't do it. Just say no.

4. Socks and sandals. The fact that there's a man or woman alive that thinks this looks good just baffles me. One of my friends said, "Well, maybe he/she has really funky toes." Get a pedicure. See a podiatrist. Wear sneakers.

5. Muffin tops. So, I'm a plus-size girl. There's no question that I can't always camouflage to the degree that I'd like the fact that I have some lumpy bits. But I implore you...please! Just buy a larger size!! That's all it would take here. These jeans are clearly too low and too tight to accommodate the shape of these women. Can you imagine how sleek and streamlined they'd look in a properly fitting pair of jeans? I know, believe me I know, the damage going up a size can do to your psyche. But if you look better in the end, isn't it worth it?! Repeat after me ladies: No More Muffin Tops!!!

Take 20: Ensembles de Inauguration

Let's face it. Michelle Obama is our Jackie Kennedy. There's just no other way to aptly describe our First Lady's grasp of what's appropriate, what's stylish, and what's powerful enough to invoke the rest of us to dress classier and with more elegance.

Personally, I loved Michelle Obama's outfits on Inauguration Day. I thought her daytime look was chic, and dressy enough for this important occasion. Apparently the designer, Isabel Toledo, has deemed the color "lemongrass." I thought the jeweled neckline and lace jacket were right on point with what's in fashion today, and the pop of color from her Jimmy Choo shoes were just the right touch of fun. The only thing I wasn't particularly fond of were her gloves. As Jackie O proves, gloves are dainty and ladylike and a surefire win. But the color Mrs. Obama chose was all wrong. I would've liked to see them match her shoes exactly, or be a different color from green altogether. Otherwise, brilliant choices Mrs. O. Bravo.

I also loved the Jason Wu dress she wore to the Inaugural Ball. Classy. Beautiful intricate details. And she wisely chose another American designer. What's not to like?

PS — I think I figured out why I'm compelled to admire the president and Mrs. Obama so much as a couple. I don't mean to trivialize their positions or the challenges they've faced by stating this, but seriously, are they or are they not today's real life example of Heathcliff and Clair Huxtable? They're smart, accomplished, stylish, elegant, and I'll bet they're pretty funny. And they can dance!!!

Take 19: Try This Look

Everyone has their own version of this look. It's so simple—a T-shirt, blazer, plus accessories. I'm hoping to bring this back into my weekend wardrobe with just a few variations on what we've already been working for years.

To make this look more "now" you must choose a graphic tee...the bolder, the better. I love these from Forever 21, both about $15. They remind me of M.I.A.

The blazer or sweater you pair this with is very important...go for lighter or brighter colors. Dark brown, black or gray was for winter...shop now for something that will carry on into spring. Choose something fitted...cropped blazers look more modern, as do longer sweaters.

This striped blazer from Old Navy is just $25.

I have a very similar blazer to this one from Old Navy (plus size, $30). Come spring I plan to have it dry-cleaned and wear it like mad!

This boyfriend cardigan from the Gap is so chic! Buy a similar one if this is too pricey for you ($54), but look for the slim, sleek look and lightweight fabric to avoid additional bulk.

The major difference I can see in scarves lately is their gauzy nature. Go for something light. If you wear it long, like the first one from Urban Outfitters below ($28), don't tie it and go for a wider width—no skinny scarves anymore. The second example, the Birds in Paris scarf ($24), is extremely trendy and something I will dare to wear soon...I love the bohemian look of this style!

Finally, jewelry (remember, with the simple T-shirt and blazer look, accessories are a must!). I love, LOVE this necklace from Urban Outfitters ($24). Longer, layered necklaces are best with this look, but pay attention to your earrings and bracelets too. Not too much though—remember what Coco Chanel said about removing one item from your outfit before leaving the house!

Take 18 - First Lady Fashion

Throughout the Obama*Biden campaign, Michelle Obama looked stunning. Whether she was wearing something more high-priced, or straight from the Target racks, she carried herself with poise and pride.

It's the holiday season! And you know what that means—par-ties!! At this time of year, I think it's perfectly fine, even necessary, to go all out. And I recommend that even if you're just looking for a sexy top to pair with jeans or a nice pair of black pants, or you're looking for a flirty dress, you go for ruffles, satin, lace, sequins, or feathers this year. Just not all at once!

Take 16: My Style Icon

Loves me some Queen Latifah.

As a plus-size chick myself, there's no doubt that my obsession with her is because she's a plus-size actress/singer who rocks a classy, fun, notice-me style and she isn't afraid of who she is. She is a BAMF (and no, I won't explain what that means).

Even if you're not plus-size yourself, you can learn a lot from studying her style. Here are some of the Queen's best looks:

This dress is so flattering. The cinching in at the waist, the wide shoulder straps, the eye-catching lace detail and shorter length. It's just perfect! I also love the gold-tone shoes—they totally elongate her legs.

One thing every girl needs—a pair of perfectly fitting, tailored bermuda shorts. I like the all black here, and the blouse is still sexy, even if the girls aren't on display. Usually I shy away from sandals that have a strap around the top part of my foot because they tend to cut the legs off, making them appear shorter. I think this works here because of the substantial heel, and, hello! The shiny bling!

I almost bought this Lane Bryant shirt on four different occasions this summer—seeing it on her, I regret that I didn't! The cut is very becoming, and the dark jean is a nice compliment. She's looks relaxed and chic for her appearance on BET's 106 & Park.

I just admire Queen Latifah so much for wearing a body-hugging dress like this. Again, the deep neckline and cumberbund-like band is crazy flattering. She just looks va-va-va-voom!

This is my #2 favorite outfit—I love the pop of color of the shirt and the way it fits across the bust. And a bigger girl can never go wrong with a tailored pair of pants and close-fitting blazer. Plus, her flashes of bling, her hip-hop style all grown up, adds the right amount of flash.

By far, this is my favorite look from the Queen. This leopard print is so. Freaking. Hot! And I love the little peak of lingerie at the neckline—sexy, provocative, but not trashy. The simple shoes and clutch tone the vampiness of this outfit down, and the shiny bangles and earrings add just enough glow.

Take 15: Grey shoes

Oh my gosh, you guys, you seriously need to buy a pair of grey shoes. I know I wrote a lot about grey bags and boots a few posts ago, but seriously, you need to get a pair.

I'll admit this right now—my very fashionable co-worker Stephanie asked me to find her a pair of grey shoes. Hence the reason for this post. I pulled a bunch, in a variety of prices, but mostly pumps or wedges, many with peep toes because, well, that's what she likes. It's also what I like. And now I really like grey shoes. I don't have a pair (yet) but I see them on girls everywhere this season and they're awesome! Metallic silver is stellar too...but my fav are the grey suede. Enjoy my examples!

This Nuncio style from Nine West ($60) is very classic, and would be easy to walk in because of the small heel. And as Stacey and Clinton always say, a pointy heel lengthens the leg!

I love these metallic, futuristic-looking peep toe pumps from Nine West ($78).

I know it's hard to believe, but these are Easy Spirits! I think they look clean, sleek and so now because of the suede. And the wedge is a perfect height ($84).

These are very sweet, very manageable shoes because the heel is low, but the button is a fun touch. Me Too, $88.

These wedges are very similar to the Easy Spirits above...but they're not suede. DKNYC, $129.

OK. I'm not completely sold on these, but I think I'd have to see them on someone. They're by Carlos, a great brand, but it's possible the trim could look at bit kitschy. It couldn't hurt to try them on though! ($109)

I adore these metallic wedges but, as with most shoes at Aldo, the height is a little much for me. Nevertheless, the shine on these is hot! ($70)

And, finally, these Nine West pumps ($89) are my second fav to the Easy Spirit wedges. They're classic, look comfortable, and would look fabulous with black opaque or colored tights. Rock 'em!

Take 14: My Style Icon

I'd like to start a series of on-going posts inspired by my fashion icons. I do look at celebrities to see what they're wearing and how I can interpret that to my own body and style. But sometimes I look simply at someone's use of accessories.

One such person who takes accessories to the next level is Lauren Conrad from MTV's "The Hills." Anyone who knows me well knows how much I love "The Hills" and, honestly, part of the reason I watch is to see what L.C. is wearing, and how she's fixed her hair and makeup.

Lauren never goes anywhere without oversize sunglasses. I think they look great on faces of all shapes and sizes...and they're so Jackie O!

The way Lauren layers jewelry is cool to me — she'll put on two or three necklaces and bracelets but they're all simple, smaller pieces. Also, check out her dark nails. Dark nails are back again this fall, but they don't have to be black. Try navy blue or deep purple (I'm currently wearing OPI's Louvre Me, Louvre Me Not).

OK, this picture's a little wide-eyed, but that's the point. I love her eye makeup! They upper-swoop on the outer edge gives her a subtle cat-eye look that's so alluring. If your eyes are smaller than hers, don't line under the bottom lashes...your eyes will look too closed.

Lauren is always playing with the textures of her hair, as seen in the last two photos above. The parted down the middle and braided look above looks very chic, not hippie, on her. Also, the braid worn like a headband with curlier hair looks very laid-back, beachy, and fun. Play with your hair! One night before bed, just give a couple braids a shot...you'll be surprised how modern it looks.

Finally, headbands. Another look that you'll be surprised looks very modern, depending on how you wear it. Mimic Lauren's style and sweep your hair to the side, then slide the head band over it. If you push your hair straight back, it'll look too childish. The smooth, side-part is the key!

Take 13: Sweater Dresses

If there's one thing you can add to your wardrobe that's versatile, comfortable, and wickedly chic, it's a sweater dress. Pair it with tights or leggings; bare legs for spring or warm fall days. Wear it with flats, heels, or boots. Sweater dresses are perfect for dates, running errands, trendier offices, or even Thanksgiving dinner.

I bought this sweater dress at Avenue today. It was about $30. I plan to pair it with leggings and my flat, slouchy black boots for work tomorrow. The great thing is the dress hugs my breasts and then flares out, giving it an A-line shape even though it's not necessarily cut that way. I have another sweater dress that has a band under the bust and then pleats that gather around it, making it fall away from my torso. Look for dresses like this to hide a tummy. If you can rock a more fitted style — go for it!

I love this cowl-neck dress from Target — $30.

This dress from Target ($40) combines two hot trends this fall/winter: purple and plaid. I'm loving the shape. I would pair it with purple or pink shoes for extra oomph...but I'm a bit crazy like that!

This grey dress from Kohl's ($35) looks a little plain, but you have to think about what you can do with it. Try adding a scarf, or a long necklace. My personal creative touch would be colored tights — hot pink, teal, or royal blue. Yay! The waistline on this dress is ultra-flattering, so spicing it up with accessories is a great solution to a simple heather gray.

Another dress from Target — and this one's only $28! (The website has a TON of sweater dresses!). I love, love this color and imagine it would look awesome with black or gray tights. I'd wear a long necklace with this to break up the scoop neck with some added interest.

Finally, the last dress from Target is an ombre style (they also carry it in a gray-t0-black style). I love the ombre look — it's very hot right now. Again, you need some tights. But remember that you can always pair this with a cute little cardigan for colder days, and hang onto it for spring and wear it with bare legs.

You may have noticed that I chose rather low-price items for this blog posting. I'm going to try looking for more affordable options for awhile. You know how much I love to show designers' clothes and then say, "Look for something similar in a lower price point." Well, sometimes that's easier said than done! If you have any shop-on-a-budget tips, please let me know! We're all trying to pinch pennies these days.

Take 12: Boots and Bags for Fall

Ladies, it's time for fall accessories. I'm choosing to focus on boots and bags for two very good reasons: I need a new pair of boots, and a few friends said they need a new bag.

(Most of the bags and boots that I feature here are available in various colors.)

Here's what you should look out for in bags:

1. Hardware on the strap—any kind of chain-link or metal on the strap is going to look super-luxe.

2. Quilted or other textures—while a crocodile print always looks super-fresh, try a quilted, ruffled, or pleated texture for a different style.

3. Purple and gray—just go for it! Any shade of purple (besides pastel) and light or dark gray is going to be huge this fall. If you're looking for another color, a deep green, navy blue, or wine color will also look very now.

The following are a few finds that I love...some are pricey, but look at them for inspiration, unless you can swing it! Then, by all means, indulge!! (Our economy needs all the help it can get!)

I'm loving this J. Crew bag — it comes in gray and other colors too. About $300.

The textures on this bag are bangin'! The silver rings that connect the handle are stellar too. Nine West, $85.

The shape and wine color of this Kenneth Cole bag make it very versatile. I also think the shoulder strap looks really comfy. $168.

Love the darker gray of this Nine West bag, plus the stitching on top. And it's on sale right now! $40.

The shape of this bag is really cool...the pleats remind me of a skirt. And the color's almost a sandy gray—a great neutral. Target, $23.

Now what to look for in boots:

1. Try something slouchy—for higher boots, with or without heels, try a more casual look. These boots look great with dresses, skirts, and skinny jeans or leggings.

2. Go for the booties—don't be afraid of a lower boot, with folded tops or buckles. They'll look awesome with dresses and skirts and, depending on the style of the top, will work with pants as well.

3. Again, purple and gray—Why buy boots in one of these colors, you may ask? Well, gray is just as neutral as brown and black and it's unexpected. Purple goes with a lot more than you may realize. Seriously. You can wear purple shoes with just about any color on top.

These are seriously the coolest boots I have seen in a long time. I just love the color, the shape of the seam, the buttons, the height of the heel, everything! Now, my calves may be a bit thick for these high boots, but if I see you in them, I will admire you forever. Chinese Laundry, $89.

I am feeling these boots! Obviously I love the slouchy style, but the chunky heel and buckles make them that much cooler. Wear with skirts, floral dresses, and skinny jeans. Style & Co. (Macy's), $79.

Every winter I know someone looking for a pair of classic black boots. There a go-to item for women everywhere because they go with everything. Personally, I always like styles that are shinier, pointier, and have some kind of metal detailing—but not too much. I love lower heels...must be because I've lived mostly in climates where you actually have to walk in snow and ice in these. These are a good price—$99—and could last you two winters if you care for them properly. Also, your local cobbler can do wonders by replacing the heel, sole, and fixing up a scuffed toe for year two. Style & Co. (Macy's).

As I said, I usually can't do knee-high boots, so I'm going to try one of these two styles soon. Nine West, $119.

These tall Aldo boots are HOT! Awesome for skirts and dresses. $140.

Love the shape of these! So unique. They look really comfortable, and I think they'll work with skirts, dresses, and under or over pants. Nice. Aldo, $130.

Finally, these are another favorite. I love the color, and the folds at the top are just so cool. These are top-notch, I say (please say this sentence in a British accent). Report, $115.

Fall is my favorite time of year. The air cools, the leaves change colors, football is on the TV, and warm cider is steaming in my mug.

It's no surprise, then, that fall-winter clothes are also my favorite. I love snuggly sweaters, form-fitting pea coats, and most of all, I love jeans. I love dark jeans — boot cut or trouser style for me, love those skinny jeans on all you skinny, tall friends.

I've compiled a number of photos from the Fall 2008 collections to help inspire you while doing your fall shopping. Remember: it's not about changing your entire wardrobe, but about incorporating a few elements into what you already have.

One of my favorite fall trends is Russian prints, shown here at Gucci. I love their vibrancy, the way the colors blend together...you'll just look exotic in prints like these, even if you're just a European mutt like me.

There are a couple major trends in pants that I'd like to address. First, high waists. Yes, ladies, it's time to say goodbye to your low-cut jeans. Now, maybe I'm biased because I could never wear low-riders...but seriously, was it ever really that attractive to allow your thong to hang out the back of your pants? Or to risk the ever-appealing "muffin top" — you know — when your love handles hang over the top of your low-slung jeans? No. So, try a high-waisted pair of jeans, for me. Especially if you're thin and tall (Dominika, this means you). If the super-high waist freaks you out, try a modest waist, and wear them with a structured blouse, especially one with lovely detailing at the neckline.

Or for nighttime, try rockin' a kick-ass look like this from Versace:

The second trend in pants is pleats. If you wear it right, you could really make this look amazing. The look below from Elie Tahari is a perfect example. I think the trick is to find the perfect fit — not too low in the crotch, not too tight in the leg, and make sure the pleats drape — if they pull around your stomach at all, it'll just look like your pants are too tight ... never pretty! Try this with a plan white T-shirt and a cool necklace, or a tighter blouse or knit top with a fitted sweater. And heels, you must wear heels!!

Anything with lace or sheer materials is totally hot for fall. There are ways you can wear this trend for day; worn modestly they're still brilliant for work.

This outfit from Tracy Reese is sultry, yet great for daytime with the longer skirt, dark tights, and boots. Pair the blouse with tight jeans or a sexy pencil skirt for a date.

This look by Derek Lam is just...perfect. Love, love, love the tights. (Anyone who knows me, knows I'm obsessed with black opaque tights or tights with patterns — I picked this look up in London two years ago and I'm still in love. Luckily, so is the fashion world!) I also love the unexpected color of the brown lace — so earthy, yet sexy at the same time. And this looks great paired with the knit top underneath — it makes lace possible for daytime and the cold months!

This sheer look from Zac Posen is very cool and work appropriate (with some sort of camisole or tank worn underneath, of course!). I love the color of this skirt paired with the sheer white of the blouse. (Sarah — I think this look is for you — minus the strange Mickey ears!)

What I love about this Jovovich-Hawk outfit is the graphic pattern of the dress, the detail of the buttons at the hemline, and the mix of blue on the belt. Remember that not all your colors have to match, they just have to go! (Also, notice the sleeves of this jacket — another major trend that carries on is the bell sleeve. During winter months, wear these jackets with a long-sleeved button down blouse or knit top — hot!)

I'm sure you've noticed a trend that has returned from the grunge-age of the early 90s — plaid. This time around, go with structured, fitted, pretty uses of plaid and please avoid the sloppy look of Alicia Silverstone in Aerosmith's "Cryin" video (love that song, though). Granted, this look from D&G is a little much worn together. Separate the top of the dress and think of it like a shirt, worn with a brown skirt or jeans. Or pair the tights with something more subtle (love the tights!). The easiest choice, of course, would be a plaid jacket ... this one's awesome! I think it'd be an awesome voluminous look with trouser jeans and a white shirt with ruffles down the front.

Necklines are a big deal this fall — so try something different. Try a blouse that ties at the neck, or a fun cowl neck like this Proenza Schouler look. I like to think of this as a continuance of the trend of wearing a scarf with short-sleeved T-shirts or sleeveless shirts that we saw on everyone all summer long.

Now, again, I'm a little biased because I actually own a pair of fun yellow heels like those shown above. But I want to draw attention to the mix of colors here — pink-hued tights with a blue dress and yellow heels? Yes! And check out the stunning look, also from Proenza Schouler, below. Purple with yellow tights and green heels? Yes! These looks are amazing!! I'm so in love with the bold colors, and the combination of those colors. Try it! Buy colored tights and colored shoes, and jazz up a black pencil skirt that you already own. Or try a colored dress or skirt with a different colored shoe — make your outfit pop!!

And, finally, my two favorite looks for fall — two looks that I hope to incorporate into my own wardrobe very soon. The first, from Diane Von Furstenberg, is a fitted pencil skirt, blouse, and fitted sweater, made even more chic with a belt cinched at the waist, and peep-toe shoes. I love this look because it's very sexy secretary, but also very easy to funkify (yeah, it's a word!). Remember those colored tights and contrasting shoes? Pop them on with this outfit and damn!! Try a long-sleeved menswear cardigan, belted to give your waist definition, worn over a blouse with a necktie. Or wear this skirt with a lace or sheer top. Try a skirt that has an amazing Russian print with a more subdued blouse and sweater ... you can take this basic DVF look and incorporate a lot of the major fall trends.

Finally, this Versace jacket is TO. DIE. FOR. I love purple. Love, love, love, purple. I think it's so rich, and so royal, and so much fun! I have a cropped, 3/4-sleeve purple jacket with big buttons that I just adore ... but this jacket? Oh, if I can find something similar (in my size and affordable!), you can bet it will be with me wherever I go this winter! Holla!!

The Pleasure of "Runway"

The best show EVER — "Project Runway" — is back on TV this Wednesday at a new time, 9:00 ET. I can't even express how totally and utterly excited I am!!

I've been studying the designers' bios on www.bravotv.com and I found that several already have collections available. So here are 3 designers I think you should pay special attention to, based on their existing work:

Emily of Sacramento, Ca.— I love the cut of her dresses, her use of plaids and sheers, and the playful sexiness of her fall/winter 2008 collection. Check it out: www.smokeandmirrorsclothing.com

Jerry of Butte, Montana — First, I love that he's from Montana. So unexpected. Here are some examples of his line, FORM, for spring 2009:

Couture Collections

Yes, I know, I haven't written a blog posting in more than a month and here I am publishing two in one night. Sorry! Sometimes the inspiration comes and goes in waves...

I had to comment about the recent couture collections...here are my favorites and how I believe you can take pieces and interpret them into your own wardrobe. Seriously. Trust me.

I was most impressed by Karl Lagerfeld's collection for Chanel — tailored, clean lines, wonderful A-line skirts and dresses ... think Audrey, think classic, think poised. Wear similar styles to work.

I saw these coats everywhere in London two years ago, and everywhere in the U.S. last year. Now I'm finally unable to resist buying one — notice on this example of Chanel perfection the high stance of the buttons and the belted waist, leaving the bottom to swing while you walk. Tres feminine.

This idea was also seen at the Christian Dior show by John Galliano. Note to self: If you need a new coat this winter, look for a style that almost resembles a full-skirted dress.

Christian Lacroix showed some magnificently embroidered Russian prints which, believe me, will be EVERYWHERE this fall. Find them on a pencil skirt. Find them on a dress. Find them on a blouse or tunic. Work them on a scarf or hat. Just wear them somehow, some way. (Extra bonus points if you pair them with bright tights...to see what I mean, stay tuned for a Fall Fashions blog, coming soon!)

Finally, this amazing, floaty, dream-like Elie Saab creation, only fit for a queen or princess or debutante or yours truly on a Saturday night at the Wine Loft. Love the color, love the snug fit on top and full, full skirt...but mostly I love the lace. Lace is THE ITEM to incorporate into your wardrobe this fall. Just do it subtly or you'll wind up looking like Madonna during her performance of "Like a Virgin" on MTV.

As you may know, a great fashion designer, Yves Saint Laurent, passed away on Sunday. He was undoubtedly a force behind many fashion movements from the time he entered the scene in 1957 to his last couture show in 2002. Here's a look at some of the amazing looks he created for YSL and how those clothes influenced not just what we wear, but the role of women throughout the world.

Anne-Marie Schiro of the New York Times said it best in an article published Monday: "During a career that ran from 1957 to 2002 he was largely responsible for changing the way modern women dress, putting them into pants both day and night, into peacoats and safari jackets, into “le smoking” (as the French call a man’s tuxedo jacket), and into leopard prints, trench coats and, for a time in the 1970s, peasant-inspired clothing in rich fabrics."

I'm a bad, bad blogger, I know. I apologize for not carrying through with my promise to blog last week about Miranda, Samantha, and Charlotte's fashion history on "Sex and the City." It was a crazy, busy week...but I did see the movie Friday night! I won't say anything about the movie itself. I will say that the clothes and accessories were AMAZING!!! Oh, how I wish I could sneak into their wardrobe closet and leave with giant trash bags full of goodies!!

So, as promised, here is a taste of the three girls who stood by Carrie through thick and thin...in their really fabulous shoes and sometimes-not-so-fabulous outfits!

Miranda
Season 1 was not a good time for Miranda. Why did they decide that a smart, witty, successful lawyer had to dress like an 8-year-old boy? Thank goodness her clothes got better as the seasons went on...

How a conservative New York professional dresses (Season 3)

In Season 4 Miranda finally stops looking like a tomboy...check out the touch of sexiness with the shorter skirt and unbuttoned blouse!

Looking soft, pretty, and glamours in Season 6 -- yay!!

And for my favorite Miranda looks -- I love the floral print of this dress and the definition of the waist. Could go casual, or sexy depending on the shoes and other accessories. The bottom look I love because Miranda's in her skinny jeans! Even bigger girls like myself have a pair of jeans from years ago that they hope to fit into one day...this was Miranda's reward for running after her newborn! (And who cares that the button popped later that night because she ate too much of a banana split?!)

Samantha
One thing's for certain about Samantha's wardrobe — it was almost always over-the-top. Coats with some kind of embellishment, from fur to metallics, were big with her, as in Season 1.

I think this picture of Sam from Season 2 sums up her look — pretty, classic hairstyles with sexy, somewhat naughty clothing.

Besides being naughty, Samantha was certainly known for being a bit flashy too, as she is here in Season 3 during the girls' trip to L.A.

But the one thing she always got right was her business attire. Sam could rock a pretty suit in a vibrant color like no other girl on the show could, as seen here from Season 3 with this Michael Kors yellow suit.

One thing I loved about Sam's clothing was her courage to mix unusual colors...

And wear a looooooow cut dress, such as this Diane von Furstenberg jersey number in Season 4.

I love this episode! Sam gets angry at her ex's surgically-enhanced house guests and hurls these cantaloupes through a sliding glass door...all while looking fabulous in this graphic bathing suit cover-up. Tres chic!

She loved her some animal prints — and I love her hairstyle here.

And finally, from Season 6, one of my favorite moments from the show. Sam has to shave her head after receiving chemo and her boyfriend does the same to show his loyalty to her...she tops her look off with a "Lil Kim" wig for his movie premiere — just like Sam to turn a tragedy into her moment to shine!

Charlotte
Last, but not least, the Park Avenue Princess, Charlotte. Some of you may be surprised to know that she wore some of my all-time favorite outfits on "Sex and the City." If I had my choice, I'd mix many of her dresses with Carrie's more outlandish shoes, bags, hats, and jewelry.

This outfit from Season 1 seems like the quintessential "Upper East Side Lady Who Lunches and Leaves Her Children Home With the Nanny" outfit ... so suitable for Charlotte.

This dress just seems so Southern to me...I think Charlotte should host a meeting of the Junior League with mint juleps served in pewter cups and pimiento cheese sandwiches in this ensemble! Bless her heart!

The ultimate yuppie, Charlotte's wardrobe would not be complete without a little Ralph Lauren.

This outfit is why I love Charlotte — snug jeans, fitted tweed blazer — classic and refined, the perfect preppy uniform. It definitely became a favorite among many women not that long ago...

I simply could not write a blog about Charlotte's clothes without featuring her wedding dresses. The first one, a Vera Wang, from her marriage to Trey...a Cinderella dress without question.

And the Badgley Mischka from her marriage to Harry...I think this dress is sexy and innocent at the same time, with intricate details, yet it somehow looks so effortless...simple elegance.

My favorite Charlotte look may be one of my favorites from the show. Period. This Richard Tyler dress is so sexy, so "come-to-me-and-let-me-tell-you-a-secret," while not being slutty or too showy. A simple black halter, low-cut, backless — just enough skin without showing too much. Perfect!

Take 6, Special "Sex and the City" edition

Everyone knows how obsessed I am about the release of "Sex and the City: The Movie" on Friday.

I. Can. Not. Wait!!!

So in honor of four of my favorite fashionable women, I will review some of my favorite fashion moments (whether good or bad) from Carrie, Miranda, Samantha, and Charlotte over the next four days.

And I'm starting with the queen of fashion herself — Carrie. As Charlotte once said, Carrie lives for fashion. She almost had a heart attack in the Vogue accessories closet, and she once discovered that she'd spent $40,000 on shoes. On shoes! She's my kinda gal ;)

Season 1 — she was certainly coming into her look! Patricia Field, the show's stylist, definitely liked to play around with textures.

Season 2 — from one of my favorite episodes. Carrie realizes that she's "Ka-Ka-Ka-Katie" from "The Way We Were" and Mr. Big is her Hubbell. One of the best quotes comes from the end of this show: "Maybe some women aren't meant to be tamed. Maybe they need to run free until they find someone just as wild to run with..."

Season 3 — the flower trend starts — love it!

Season 4 — who can forget Carrie's infamous "fashion roadkill" moment?! At least she got to keep the jeweled Dolce & Gabbana panties!

Season 5 — love the bubble hem, love the color, love the hair...

Season 6 — this Versace Couture dress could only be worn in Paris...so over-the-top and so beautiful. Can you imagine being surrounded by all those layers and layers of ruffles? Heaven.

And now for a few random outfits that you just have to love. I know people say that Carrie had the most outlandish clothes, and they're right, but I say, take risks in fashion! Mix colors and prints! Have fun!!!!

Carrie wore this fab LBD in one of the sexiest scenes in all six seasons — and all she did was dance with a Louisiana Navy officer during Fleet Week. The man was hella fine...and so is this dress...

Oh, Oscar de la Renta. My heart is beating faster...Carrie, ahem, SJP, is one lucky, lucky girl.

And, finally, this outfit is a stunner. The pleated georgette and lace Michael Kors dress, the rainbow metallic brocade coat, and, of course, the shoes...ruffle cascade Christian Louboutin stilettos. Wow. If I recall correctly, these shoes elicited two very famous words..."Hello, Lovers..."
